Oreon Olivia Minnix, 94, of Bridgeport passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at United Hospital Center.
She was born January 28, 1923 in Keyser a daughter of the late Leonard and Edna Whittacre Nelson.
Mrs. Minnix is survived by her son, Dann Minnix and his wife Connie of Shinnston; four grandchildren, Danny and Debbi Minnix of Shinnston; Cheryl and Mike Carey of Morgantown; Kim and Paul Snyder of Shinnston; Tracy and Aaron Dragoo of Monongah; twelve great-grandchildren, Duke, Logan, and Megan Minnix; Chris Carey and Erica; Chelsy Smith and Wellington; Craig Carey; Chelby Carey and fiancé Nick Dyer; Brad Bennett and Ashley; James Kearns and Tiffany; Shana Skidmore and Kevin; Josh Sabala and fiancé Crystal Nixon; Corey Sabala; and Paul Skinner; as well as seventeen great-great-grandchildren, Jaden and Addison Minnix; Sloane Smith; Caden and Cameron Carey; Connor and Emma Bennett; James and Hunter Kearns; Emily, Kylin, and Molly Skidmore; Urijah Sabala; and Mallory, Ryan, and Roman Skinner.
In addition to her parents, Oreon was preceded in death by her step-father, Tom Long; two brothers, Webster and Carroll Nelson; her daughter, Sharon Minnix; and her great-great-granddaughter, Angel Bennett.
Mrs. Minnix was a 65 year member of the Shinnston Rebekah Lodge #47 Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston from 12:00 noon until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 9 with Pastor Cindy Boggs officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
